The Benefits of Dog Training For the Pet and the Owner

Dog training is essential because most of the time, the owners have wrong notions on how to properly train or get along with their canine friends. Perhaps, one of these misconceptions is that training itself is just limited to performing tricks and stunts. But if you would ask a professional dog trainer, it’s a more complex study of dog behavior. There are several advantages of enrolling your dog for professional training. And these benefits not only accrue to the pet, but you the owner as well.

Benefits of Training for the Dog

- Learning the right behavior. The absence of proper training will cause the dog to adapt its natural animal instinct or behavior. That is being aggressive, irritated, and dominant. This natural behavior can be observed no matter how tamed you think your dog is. There shall be times when that aggressive behavior eventually would come out. Some instances might be observed during feeding time or when socializing with other dogs. Dog training will ensure that the dog learns the right behavior suitable for a household.

- Physical exercise and mental stimulation. A lot of dog owners don’t know that physical and mental exercise is very much important for a dog. A lot of people are even surprised that certain dogs are capable of performing certain tricks and activities. The truth is, dogs are intelligent and also a thinking being. And the best way to maximize this intelligence is by stimulating it with dog training. Physical activity is also important for a dog just like how exercise benefits humans.

- Ability to communicate. Although dogs, can’t speak, training can be a very good way to teach your pet on how to communicate using actions or behavior. Among the most important things which you may want to know is the time when the dog needs pee or perhaps, defecate.

- A happier and livelier dog. Related to the benefit on physical and mental exercise, it can be noticed that a dog which has undergone training is much livelier and considered “happier”. It all boils down to a more positive behavior and less of the dog problems, tantrums, and quirks you have experienced before.

Benefits of Dog Training for the Owner

- For family or personal enjoyment. Having an intelligent and well-trained dog as a companion or a part of the family is always fun and exciting. It can provide that needed entertainment or affection anytime you need it. Psychologists even note that your adorable dog can also help relieve that stress of everyday office or home work.

- Making your dog safer for children. If there is any member of the family that would be more interested in playing with your dog, then that would be your child or the children. But since kids can unpredictably do things which can irritate dogs, it is always better and safer if you are assured that your dog learns the right behavior on how to respond and not be aggressive.

- Understanding dog behavior. Dog training does not only work for the pet but also for the owner. For the training to be effective and successful, the dog trainer will often integrate the owner in each training lesson or session. Not only does the dog learn, but the owner as well. The trainer will most of the time educate the owner on how to understand dog behavior, on how to react and control them, how to properly take care of his or her pet, and how to generally improve that man-animal relationship.

  1. Training your dog is something the two of you do together, as a team, rather than something you do to your dog.
