Walking a Dog

Cesar Millan, the dog whisperer, has 6 tips for walking a dog:

1. Walk in front of your dog. This shows your dog you are pack leader or the "alpha" dog.

2. Use a short leash. This gives you more control and allows you to communicate, guide,    and correct your dog more easily.

3. Give yourself enough time for the walk. Morning walks are recommended and give yourself 30 minutes to an hour for each walk.

4. How to reward your dog during the walk. After your dog has maintained the proper state of mind, allow him to relieve himself and sniff around. You decide when reward time is over.

5. Keep leading even after the walk. When you get home from the walk have your dog patiently wait while you put away the leash or take off your shoes.

6. Reward your dog after the walk. After walking a dog, you should give him food and water. This shows your dog that you have allowed him to "work" for food and water.

This blog entry, Walking a Dog, is a summary from an article written by Cesar Millan on his website www.CesarsWay.com. On his site the Dog Whisperer gives many great tips and techniques on how to train your dog. Be sure to check it out.
