- If your dog or puppy is whining or barking when confined in their crate, it usually means that they have to relieve themselves. When the barking or whining begins, immediately take the dog or puppy to the designated "toilet area" outside.
- Many dogs suffer from "separation anxiety". This causes all kinds of dog problems and behavioral issues including the seemingly never ending, nerve shattering, barking dog. It is very important at this stage of your dog training that you get the dog or puppy used to being left alone for certain periods of time even when you are at home.
- Always be conscience of keeping the dog or puppy psychologically happy. Make sure they always have adequate food and water and that their chew and play toys are always with them when they are alone.
- If your dog or puppy is whining, make certain that you check for the obvious signs that may be causing him anxiety or discomfort such as illness, injury, or even an empty water bowl.
- You must have patience during this difficult time of training your puppy or dog. If you go to him every time your dog barks or whines, you are only giving him positive reinforcement for the behavior.
- If you go to your dog when he is whining and you find that all is well, never hesitate to reprimand him for the excessive whining or barking.
